Rob Edwards and O'Neil represent the initial names under consideration to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolves.

The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday following the team's ten-game winless start to the top-flight season.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have historic associations to the club - are among the options to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.

The manager is presently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton Town head coach - who played more than 100 of appearances for Wolves during his playing career - is considered a leading contender for the position.

The mid-career manager is said to have support from the club board as they start the search of hiring a fresh manager.

Gary O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise contender, even though he would be a surprising appointment given he was released by the club in December last year.

The ex- West Ham United player is currently unemployed meaning the club would not need to pay any compensation.
